Fresh Water Daily

It is important to provide fresh water daily and lots of cool water during warm weather especially. Even change the chicken water and refresh it with cold water multiple times on hot days! You can add apple cider vinegar to the water to assist with digestive health and keeping the pH balance of the crop.

Hydration for Good Egg Production

Ample water is important not only for good health, including hydration, but is critical for egg production. A stressed or dehydrated hen’s body will interpret these basic biological signals as a threat to survival and will begin the process of decreasing egg production.

On our backyard farm, we use stainless steel kitchen/cooking bowls for our bird’s water—the bowls are easy to clean and sanitary. Algae is slower to grow on hot days due to the smooth surface.
