Week by Week Photos

Meet Sloth!
Sloth is an Ameraucana, just like her sisters, Mother Clucker and Triple Tall. She is very laid back and chills out with her kiddo-owner often. Her breed of chicken is primarily adopted for its incredibly sweet disposition, unique feather color and markings, and definitely for their blue eggs, which can range in shade from very light blue to sky blue.
Ameraucanas are not the most common sense birds in our flock, but they certainly are the sweetest and most gentle. Often, as I watch as the flock eat their food, the Ameraucanas are either pushed out or completely miss the food tossed right to them. Maybe it’s their reaction time, just a little bit slower—although—it’s nearly impossible for any chicken to compete with our Buff Orpington, Star. (Star is so fast, she gets nearly triple the food of any chicken!)
Usually, I purposefully toss food directly to the Ameraucanas, as they seem to get frustrated as well, that they are trying to get food and it disappears right out from under them, literally. The Ameraucana goes for the food, another chicken gets it, and the Ameraucana looks all over, confused, like, “Where did it go?” and then lets out a high-pitched squeak-honk in complaint.
Ameraucanas will always be a part of our urban farm flock—their charm and beautiful egg color bring so much enjoyment and laughter to our days!
